Hannibal is an American psychological horror-thriller televison series developed by Brian Fuller for the NBC. The series is based on characters and elements appearing in Thomas Harris' novels Red Dragon (1981), Hannibal (1999), and Hannibal Rising (2006) and focuses on the relationship between Federal Bureau of Investigation special investigator Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), a forensic psychiatrist destined to become Graham's most cunning enemy and, at the same time, the only person who can understand him.
I stumbled upon this show circa 2020 or early 2021 -- I was around thirteen years old and deep into the internet as a result of online schooling and the isolation of quarantine. I'd heard bits and pieces about the show before and knew about the infamous horror icon that is and continues to be Hannibal Lecter. I'd never been one to sit down and actually watch a horror movie or series, however, which meant it took a bit of convincing myself to try it out. It didn't take long for me to become sucked in from just the first episode, Apéritif. That whole week after my discovery was full of all-nighters in front of my TV and increasingly growing paranoia from a lack of sleep and a fixation that could only be explained from the lens of neurodivergence. Despite this, I did eventually regain a more healthy attachment a couple years later, where I could properly nuture and examine my full love for Hannibal. Even more recently, it has become a hyperfixation of mine.
